Who Am I, and Why Do I Care About Assistive Technology? My name is Bailey Weber and I am currently teaching grade 6/7 in Fort Liard in the Northwest Territories. I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Earth Sciences, and a Bachelor or Education in Elementary Education. I am passionate about the environment, outdoor education, love to read, I think art should be everywhere in the curriculum and I love to play piano.
I believe that Assistive Technology can help remove barriers to learning and representing information for all students, but especially for those students who exist in the margins of the current education system. I am also so excited about the way technology can allow students to express themselves artistically in school. I also think technology is fundamental to how we live, and if we don't start using more useful technology in schools students will be unprepared for the modern world when they graduate high school. |
HOW TEACHERS CAN USE ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY IN THEIR CLASSROOMS
These technologies can make classrooms places of accessibility for all students and allow learners to reach their full academic and personal potential. Society would benefit from more students pursuing their passion and fully utilizing their talents in the modern world. The cure to cancer is somewhere in the mind of a child in a classroom, the solution to global warming and carbon capture technologies, the next Picasso, Mozart, Einstein or Steve Jobs are in classrooms all over the world... and some of them will not reach their full potential because we have put them in a box without any technology, creativity or real world problem important problems to start solving now.
Technology can break down barriers and help students access opportunities and knowledge that they could not access before these technologies were available."

Technology can give students and people the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and in their daily lives.
